How about that Elon Musk?

America is once again number one. We have as a citizen the first person on Earth with a net worth of over one trillion dollars. I guess we can claim him even though he is an immigrant by way of Canada. Born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1971, he left while the getting was good before Apartheid came to a close in his native land. With Apartheid white citizens were favored and advantaged over non-whites. He chose America where the extreme wealthy (the Epstein class) are favored and advantaged over the wealthy and below (obviously wealthy non-whites would also be included in this lower class).

Being a person of much lower wealth, at about one hundred thousand (depending on the value given to my home) I have a hard time visualizing what it would be like to have a net worth of over a trillion dollars, but I am going to attempt it in this blog.

I will start with one hundred dollars, With this amount of money my wife and I can go out and have a nice steak dinner. It won't buy desert and drinks but we are well satisfied. It also could buy me a nice warm coat that would last for years.

For a thousand dollars, ten times the hundred, I can buy a dining room table and chairs. For several thousand dollars I can buy a used ski boat. The problem with that is the cost of gasoline. For a hundred thousand I could buy the car or truck of my dreams (same problem with the cost of gas).

Let's jump to a million dollars (a thousand thousands). With one of these I could buy a beautiful home overlooking the sea in Oregon. In California you couldn't buy a dumpster overlooking the sea. For several million I can buy a pristine mansion with fifty acres, overlooking the sea in Northern Ireland.

Now the challenge is a billion dollars. A thousand million. I can't comprehend this quantity of wealth. What could one desire for this amount? With this amount I have my yacht with a ski boat for a life boat, docked by my mansion by the sea, located on fifty acres of grass land (for my brother-in-law to mow) and multi-millions still in the bank.

So, what the hell is a trillion dollars? It is a thousand billion! To me, that approaches infinity, Elon doesn't have just a trillion. He has one and a tenth trillion (Forbes estimate in June of 2026). Why mention the one tenth of a trillion? Because it is one hundred billion. From the above you can see that one tenth of a trillion is real money.

Musk has a ten year contract with Tesla that “earns” him a hundred billion annually (another trillion). I'm sure that he will invest the money wisely. So ten years from now he could be the first multi-trillion dollar man. Won't that be nice?

The US Supreme Court (with its legal secret unlimited political pack donations, Citizens United) had a major roll in enabling Elon Musk to help put a man found guilty of sexual assault and an ego maniac into the office of President of The United States. It has been revealed that Musk donated two hundred and fifty million dollars to Trump's recent campaign for President. Political wizards estimate that it requires a thousand dollars in campaign funds to change a single vote in a presidential election. So a $250,000,000 donation could result in two hundred and fifty thousand votes turned. Thanks to the US Supreme Court, one man, Elon Musk, accounted for more than 10% of Trump's win of 2,284,967. After this donation is Musk left in a weakened financial position? No, he only used 4.4% of his wealth and has more than regained his donation with awards of no-bid government contracts.

What would help save this nation from billionaire elites? Some tax legislation might help. In the 1940s the tax rate on every dollar earned over $250,000 was over 90%. With inflation it should be moved to each dollar over $500,000 (anyone could live comfortably on that figure). The maximum rate presently is 34%. Changing it back to 90% could fund USAID (the richest nation in the world helping the poorest nations), public education, universal healthcare and public transportation. We could make America of the people, by the people and for the people. With this suggested income tax in place Musk would have never moved down from Canada and we wouldn't have had a monkey with a chainsaw on the floor of the Republican Convention.

Can a wealthy white migrant still find power in today's America? Yes he can. The dream is still alive.

I don't often apologize for lack of accuracy in one of my blogs, but this is the exception. I try very hard to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth (other than my satire). The previous blog Drone Diplomacy displayed extreme ignorance on my part. I did not realize the drones are presently partially defended against with hacking and scrambling of transmissions. It is not being done all that effectively, but it is being done.

How could I be so ignorant? Well, I watch the news on MS NOW for at least a couple of hours five days a week. What I hear is that we are depleting our hundreds of thousand dollar defense missiles shooting down hundreds of dollar drones and that it will take at least three years to replace them. I have heard nothing of radio interference as a defensive measure.

I live primarily in the liberal bubble. I think that most of us chooses a bubble that soothes our belief systems. Political party's giant dollar input strengthens the bubbles. So I was fed that we are spending too much on the Iran war and gaining little or nothing. I believe both of these things are true and that we are killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians needlessly. MS NOW tells me daily of the deaths of fourteen or fifteen of our brave men and women who have died in our war of choice, but never mention the civilian casualties in Iran. I would like to know.

The end of drone warfare that I proposed in the previous blog could certainly be brought about by borrowing a half dozen or so of our best scientists and engineers from NASA and the radio telescope design teams. The radio controlled drones would not be an unsolvable problem.

I have often wondered why we don't talk to enemy drones? Drones are radio controlled, so why not? It is not necessary to shoot them from the ski with an expensive missile. A low cost powerful radio negotiation could stop them much more effectively. We could instruct the drone to either blow itself up, in the air, or return to its base and blow itself up there. I prefer the second choice.

We are presently capable of long range radio transmissions. We employ radio telescopes to travel the known universe. This is presently a distance of 93 Billion Light Years. The known universe grows right along with telescope technology. We have scanners capable of instantly reading the frequency of a radio transmission and transmitters capable of overpowering the drone's normal control.

There is nothing I have described here that is beyond present technology. The radio transmitters could be located on land, on the sea or in space. Any first world nation is capable of this defense. The order to self destruct could be sent to drones waiting for deployment. I believe that I am spelling out the end of drone warfare. They can once again be RC model airplanes, used by young technology nerds. Harmless, but great fun for the users.

Ask yourself, “Why isn't this the present method of ridding the world of drones?” One, the militaries of our planet like to blow things up. This is their mindset. Two, it would greatly decrease military spending. We know that the industrial military complex would not like that. Three, it would greatly reduce civilian casualties. I'm not sure who would oppose that, but there must some who would or the damn drones wouldn't exist in the first place.

The acronyms above translate into Services for Undocumented Natives vs Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  SUN would be the department title if America truly were Under God.  You see if our nation truly were under God the department would be designed to help our new neighbors with education, documentation, housing, food and medical care.  That would in the long run strengthen the nation rather than degrade it.

What is a Native American?  It is a person whose ethnic group is native to North or South America.  Then what is a white person?  An immigrant.  And we whites have never completely forgiven the natives for that.  When the natives ruled the land their God created the Earth for all to share.  The white immigrants came with their fences, property rights, documentation, national borders and the Epstein Class.  Whose god seems more godlike to you?

The US is becoming the nation of incarceration and deputation.  "Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act includes nearly $75 billion for enforcement and detention to the annual funding of the Home Security Agency receives, which is seven times ICE's previous annual budget." - American Immigration Council.  Why do I say this?  Because our annual budget for USAID was between $20 billion and $40 billion (less than 1% of our federal budget) to cover humanitarian aid, global health and economic development to over100 countries.  This was the wealthiest nation in the world helping the poorest nations of the world.  We stopped the program this past year and USAID had been our nation's good deed.  Whether you believe in Deeds or Grace, our nation will not be going to eternal bliss.  Not if God has any say in the matter.  A nation can have a controlled border without the prison camps.  After all, Canada does it.

I have lived 85 years as an American citizen. For 84 of them there were no masked law officers on our streets. Under MAGA that is no longer so. In my early teens I watched an imaginary masked lawman of early America called the Lone Ranger. This mythological hero left saved damsels in distress and left a silver bullet (not one in the basket). We liked it that way. Be careful what you wish for!

Today there are federal law officers on the streets of major American cities that are masked. They are masked for good reason. They don't wish to be recognized while doing illegal acts. They arrest US citizens, and folks legally in the US along with folks who are not here legally. All that they need to do to qualify for arrest is to be a person of color, preferably Hispanic of Native American descent and not be able to prove their citizenship. I can't prove my citizenship. I carry a driver's license, but no passport or birth certificate and a driver's license is not adequate proof. I don't worry because I am Caucasian.

To you folks willing to walk a thousand or so miles north to escape masked police (while seeking asylum) forget it. Masked police are now available in US major cities.

What of our elected representatives? Are they rising as a single voice to stop this practice of masked police? Are they introducing a Constitutional Amendment to stop the madness? We are the people who voted for them but are entitled to nothing in return. Instead they are taking action to redistrict, take away the representation for Democrats, Republicans, Brown Folks and ?s.

Representatives who stand up for you, not their party's leader with large dollar interests are now very rare. They may talk like an intelligent person, but they vote like a rubber stamp guided by large dollar interests. If you don't believe that you are not watching carefully.

When I was a young man I had friends who were police officers. None wore masks at work. They served the public. They were our friends and neighbors. They believed that the law benefited the public. We knew them. None wore masks. Let your children know unmasked police officers.

Today's blog will be very Presidential. There will be very little truth in it and I will not be listening to the experts, but will listen to my gut. However, be assured that there is a town in New York named Coxsackie. Look it up on your cell phone. What kind of sick mayor and council came up with this name?

Can you imagine being on a high school football team traveling to an away game with the name of the town you come from in large letters on the side of your bus? And then the sarcastic cheers from the crowd. It makes you wonder it they ever won an away game.

Our cable company is Cox Cable. It has always been an embarrassment to me when their service truck stops at my house. It has “Cox” written on the side with three foot letters and their slogan written below, “Life is better with Cox.” Have they no shame? The cable company's service is fast and reliable. Their customer service people speak English as a first language. The service techs are excellent. The only folks that earn the corporate name are in the billing department.

There is a popular male venereal disease that was first isolated in Coxsackie named Coxsackievirus. Don't try to tell me that doctors have no sense of humor. The name is easy to pronounce and remember ... unlike other medical terms.

I started my motorcycle career as a district manager for US Suzuki Motorcycle Corp. My vehicle had “Suzuki” written in large letters on each side. I noticed while traveling through Navajo villages that the locals would point to my car and laugh. At a service station I asked what was funny about my car. The attendant informed me that Suzuki is the Navajo word for the male group. I suppose that if the good guys had won the Indian Wars, Suzuki would not have been the name for our imported motorcycles and Trump would never have won an election.

Enough about my life in the Southwest and how we relate to New Yorkers.

Government Shut-Down 2025

          Q: When is it logical for a government to shut-down? A: When the government is being replaced.  Revolution, peaceful or not, is the only logical time to shut-down a government.  Even then … it would be wise to keep the experienced public servants in place.  Can anyone of sound mind dispute this?  I think not.

          If a government sends home, without pay, its workforce for an unspecified period of time and without a logical reason it is alienating.  The good-will of that workforce will not be easily earned back.  The good will of the population should be the same.  Those legislators who vote for a shut-down have no stoppage in their wages.  But the working public servants do and there is no payback for lost wages.

          The political parties like to threaten each other with government shut-downs.  It isn’t an idle threat.  There have been over twenty government shut-downs in the last fifty years.  They have been initiated by both political parties.  To put an end to this ridiculous practice we need a constitutional amendment to make a shut-down illegal.  Votes need not to be taken on the entire budget, but on the individual changes being proposed.  It would take a sixty per cent vote to change any line item.  If no budget is passed by the assigned date, the previous year’s budget remains in effect.  Simple but effective.

Smithsonian/Trump/Impeachment

In America our President has initiated a new form of history.  He often does this in speeches and in talks from the Oval Office.  But this transaction with the Smithsonian Institute seems small and somewhat humorous.  The institute modified a presidential display which included the entire history of Presidential Impeachments.  Trump had two impeachments from his actions in his first term in office.  Two is a record in American history and Trump would like not to hold that record, which he terms a hoax.  The two impeachments were issued by a Democratic majority in The House of Representatives.  When the indictments were sent to the Senate for trial, he was found not guilty of both impeachments.  The Smithsonian has removed the history of impeachments after 2008 (Trump’s impeachments).  History is ruled from the Oval Office.

 

We no longer have a functioning democracy in America.  Our representatives primarily vote straight party line (a “rubber stamp”).  They do not vote their wisdom or their conscience.  Political parties have outlived their usefulness.  In the second Senate Impeachment Trial, the Republican Senate voted not to hear testimony or see evidence in documents.  That sounds crazy if not for the fact that their votes were determined before the “trial”.  Most of the testimony in the first impeachment trial was given by Republicans, but not considered by the Republican majority.  Democrats would do the same, as illustrated in the Clinton impeachment trial.  This political folly is also a part of our legislation.  When Mitch McConnell was the majority leader of the Senate, he had over three hundred bills passed by a Democratic House of Representatives that he did not introduce to the Senate for discussion or a vote.  We had legislation by death on McConnell’s desk.  A Democratic Senator or a Republican Congressman that you elected had damn little influence on your government.  And now our President writes our history.

 

If an organization as strong and well established as The Smithsonian Institute cannot stand up for truth who can?  Certainly not your news corporations.  The reason why not is in their names.  After all, they are corporations.  Income is their guide.  Truth will not come from a crystal ball on the internet, it is too one sided.  You can trust your eyes and ears, but that gives you a very small radius of truth.  Your mind is not reliable unless the data that enters it is. And has it ever been the case?

    “If you’re so smart …”

   “If you’re so smart, why aren’t you rich?”  This is the quote most often used by the simple majority of our nation’s population.  It implies major stupidity on the part of the questioner.  The best example of this is the Trump Monkey, Elon Musk.  Jumping around on a campaign stage with a chainsaw in your hands and a MAGA cap on your head does not indicate “smart”.  No, being the richest person in the world is a better sign of insanity.  Extreme wealth is an indicator of greed and greed is a rapidly growing epidemic in America, the major symptom of which is squirreling away nuts for an imaginary winter.  Greed is the malignant form of the survival instinct, not an indicator of smart.

   We only have thirteen billionaires living in, as President Trump would say, “The Shit Hole State of Arizona,” in which I reside.  Thirteen isn’t very many, but the state’s government and education system still runs (as do all other states in America) to the music of money.  What started as a game for students to relax with, basketball is now the guiding force of the University of Arizona.  Basketball brings in money and education is generally a cost.  Please remember that the stated purpose of a university is to educate and yet our basketball coach has an annual salary of $3,700,008 and the President of The University (the head of education) is salaried at $1,016,018 per year.  That is to say that the chief educator earns less than a third of what the top coach makes at our university.  This is certainly in line with our nation’s interest.  Would the average Arizonan be more enthused by winning an NCAA Championship in basketball or the hire of the world’s brightest physicist to head the Physics Department at The U?  What about money’s influence on government.  I spent a couple of years as The Arizona Motorcycle Dealer’s lobbyist to the Arizona Legislature.  Financial power is the primary influence on the creation of legislation.  Does money write “smart” legislation?  The answer to that question is, “Only if a benefit to the wealthy happens to benefit all.”  That doesn’t happen very often.

Is Joe Biden Too Old?

   Yes and no.  Yes, he is too old to run our country (as is Donald Trump).  No, one can be too old for life, for that defines its end point.  Joe Biden is no longer fit to  be the president of our country.  Donald Trump never was.  This is not a political blog post.  It is an attempt to look at job qualification without bias.  At the age of eighty-three, I feel qualified to state an opinion on this issue.  The federal court system sees me as too old to be a desirable jury member.  I was at the age of seventy relieved of this burden.  A wise decision from our federal court system and there are far too few of these in recent history (ref: Citizens United, Roe vs. Wade, Gun Regulation and Presidential Immunity). 

   Back to the point.  As you well know, with age any muscle will tire and weaken.  I am six foot eight and can no longer slam dunk a basketball.  It also takes me much longer to write a blog post.  In verbal debate, where I once shined, I am very mediocre.  With age comes gradual death.  It is the simple mechanics of wearing out.  Probably a good thing.  It happens.  Joe Biden would have been a better president at the age of fifty than he is capable of being at the age of eighty.  When he does his energetic trot as he enters a stage, he is unable to recognize the elderly shuffle that he is displaying.  Brains are muscles too.

   Half of the citizens of the US (The Democrats) need to offer the nation a younger and more agile (physically & mentally) candidate for the position of President.  No candidate should be legally allowed to run for office when past the required age of retirement.  Normally in our country this age is sixty-five. 

   It is only a matter of time before the aging Alpha Wolf loses his last battle and this normally doesn’t go well for the future of his pack.   If the DNC prevails, Joe Biden with run against Donald Trump.  The only hope is that an aging good man can prevail over an aging bum.  But, beware of the electorate.

The Free Market & You

 

   I have a great interest in Hong Kong.  Their people are the #1 readers of this blog, with the US in a close 2^nd.  Singapore is in 3^rd position.  The low life that was our 45^th president says that there are great benefits to being a star.  The statistics show that if there were a thousand people in my front yard in Hong Kong, one of them would have read my blog, while in America it would require a million folks in the front yard for there to be two reads.  This, for me, would be a reason to consider moving there.  So naturally, I researched real estate values in Hong Kong.  A 1500 square foot townhouse sells for three to five million dollars there.  This effectively removes the top middle income folks and those below them to obtain reasonable housing.  I do not consider 3 bedrooms … 3 families reasonable.  In Hong Kong a recent college graduate with a family moves in with his parents.

   I believe that Hong Kong offers an opportunity to view the canary in the mine rendition of The Free Market Economy in real estate.  The “affordable housing” words are fast becoming an oxymoron in coastal America and even desirable inland cities.  I took a little over two decades for Hong Kong to fall off of the cliff to insanity.  I believe we Americans can do it faster.  Hell, we already have a pretty good start in removing affordable housing from our thriving commercial locations.

   Why is Free Market (greed) such a strong driving force in an economy?  Please revisit my Golden Goose Economy post.  Those who enter the economy are generally interested in personal income.  Those who are driven by success and are successful at obtaining their goals generally have the malignant form of survival instinct, greed, as their north star.  This driving force places profit above reason.  Those who have this trait, our successful financial leaders, are willing to destroy the society in exchange for personal financial gain.  Do I sound like a God Damn Commie here?  I am not.  I spent my business life as a motorcycle dealer.  I’m a Capitalist.  I tried to keep my customers happy and myself, my employees and my family happy as well.  I believe that these goals give more satisfaction in the long run than greed offers.

   My home (1350 sq.ft.) was built to sell for $17,500 in the 1970s.  My wife and I purchased it for $144,000 in 2002.  The present market value is twice that.  What will it be in another two decades?  Look to Hong Kong for a clue.  At some point in time an “effective government” (another oxymoron) will have to step in and stop the insanity.  Good luck with that taking place.  “Gold Rules.”

A Hero

  When a young man joins the military and goes off to a foreign land to kill strangers, we call him a hero.  If one of the strangers happens to kill him, we call him a fallen hero and remember him on Memorial Day.  The young man travels to the foreign land with the blessing of his country.  He carries the nation’s flag with him and wears the nation’s uniform.  His target is the uniform of the enemy in that foreign land or its civilians.  This sounds crazy to me, but to most it is called patriotism and is applauded.  Their strongest argument would be: “Well, that’s the way it is and the way it always has been” or “What about Hitler and World War II?”

   To answer “That’s the way it is and the way it always has been” I would say, in the early 20^th Century women did not have the right to vote in America.  In 1919 that was the way it was and the way it had always been, but it didn’t make it right or just.  Today we sell war weapons to civilians with little or no regulation.  Seventy percent of our population would like to see effective gun regulation, but “that’s the way it is.”  If it is wrong, why not correct it?

   Now for Hitler.  If the young men of Germany had been capable of individual thought, they would not have put on the uniform or picked up the weapon.  But their heroes are the same as ours.  They sacrifice for God & Country.  The question is, does God truly ask for that sacrifice and does Country have a right to ask?  Did our young men have to respond to the actions of the young men of Germany eighty years ago?  Of course they did, but the leader of Germany made some bad choices and the population needed not to comply.  As a pacifist I am asking for individual moral rudders to steer the ship.  It would be a better world.  Is there any chance that individuals will stop mindlessly following their leader into war?  Probably not.  So the hero will always be willing to travel half way around the world to kill or be killed by a stranger.  “That’s the way it is.”

   What is John saying here?  I don’t think he is talking about The Holy Bible (both New and Old Testament), but that he is talking about any bible driven faith.  If John was a Former Catholic Priest, then his raising, or at the very least his higher education was based on Faith, not reason or logic or history.  But obviously John has come out of The Fog of Faith.  He has entered the world of the wise.  John would now be agnostic, that is one who questions and realizes that the many answers available are not provable, but can be subjected to logic, reason and data.  He has entered Thomas Paine’s Age of Reason.  It is an age of questions not answers.

   If there is a purpose for each of us to go through life’s experiences it seems to me that it would be to be aware, to question and possibly reach wise probable theories.  If there is no purpose … so be it (enjoy the ride).  It matters not what the answer to the question is.  Whatever is … is and each of our opinions has little effect on truth.    

   So what am I asking of you, if you are a person of faith?  I am asking you to give up a beautifully created delusion, capable of enriching your life or warping it (an example of this is the current news from The Holy Land).  I am suggesting honoring your awareness to a system that allows for the existence of All that we perceive.  The miracle of it All becomes available to you.  You do not have to imagine the purported parlor tricks of God for your amusement.  “We all live beneath a Miracle and we each sing our little song (the song of life).”  GOD* does not break his rules (the system or systems).  As science evolves it hopefully approaches truth.  It is a never ending journey, by design.  Join John.

   I believe the sun is about to set on the human experience.  This is not Chicken Little telling you that “The sky is falling.”  It is information gained from London’s CNN Business and the MIT Technology Review.  Both are talking about brain-computer interfaces.  The two large corporations involved are Neuralink, founded and backed by Elon Musk with an investment of $100 million.  The other, Synchron, backed by funding from Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.  Synchron has already implanted its chip in 10 people’s brains and launched a patient registry to gear up for a larger clinical trial.  The justification of these cell phone based systems is to benefit those seeking a memory boost or those with congenital defects. I suspect that euphoric joy and a feeling of well-being will be added to bolster sales and influence.

   The systems currently work most effectively when a chip is implanted in the brain itself.  Not all people will be anxious to have this procedure, although the current chips are being installed by a surgeon guided robot and should make the surgery more acceptable.  Those who have had the procedure done will no longer need to carry a cell phone.  They will once again have the use of their left hand.  I believe that the chip in brain in-plant is early days technology.  “The pioneers take the arrows.”  Just as an early telephone was hard wired to a phone wire system, the early cell chip in brain will be required to turn your brain into a cell phone receiver.  In my opinion, once the language is perfected between cell and brain, only a wireless update will be required to give your brain the sending and receiving ability.  No permission required.  You will only be required to be in cell tower range or with the more expensive and effective program it will be satellite communication.  It will work at sea or in a remote forest.

   When you have Elon Musk competing with Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos for power and wealth you are looking at a world class competition.  It will not progress slowly.  All of that power and greed in one little game to have absolute control over all humankind.  We will no longer need a government to guide us along our way.  There will be no fear of a nuclear war.  All minds around the world will work well with the system.  No worries about Artificial Intelligence taking over humanity.  We won’t even notice it.  No more ethnic or religious prejudice.  No more party politics.  No more MSNBC or FOX.  What could be better?

What's In The World?

    To some the world includes the Atomic Level.  That is a level that exists below our sensory capacity.  Does it exist?  Looking at existing nuclear energy generating facilities or two missing cities in Japan, one would reasonably conclude that it does.  Would this acceptance allow for a level of existence below the atomic level, commonly referred to as the Nano level or quantum physics?  I think it does.  Would this line of reason allow for a level of existence below the Nano level?  Possibly it would.  Then why not a level of existence larger than the one we experience?  I often refer to our universe as possibly part of a living thing.  Could there be intelligent life residing in the atomic level of our bodies?  If there were, would your body not be the universe to them?  Our current science community spends a great deal of time looking at the smaller levels of existence, but very little time searching for a larger level.  I suspect ego is guiding the research.

   Einstein once said “I believe two things are infinite.  The universe and human stupidity and I’m not sure about the universe.”  I think he was bitterly saying, I gave the human race a window into a different level of existence and they used it to blow each other up more efficiently. Humans may yet use this knowledge to end humankind.  There is something to be said in favor of his observation.  I will say it.  “Perhaps we humans are better off if we operate only in our limited natural perceived level of our world.”  I can see that this is an ignorant point of view, but nuclear plants produce nuclear waste and perhaps “ignorance is bliss.”  Ignorance obviously has never failed Donald Trump or thousands of religious leaders.  The teachings of a God that created the universe as we know it in six days, six thousand years ago and rested on the seventh, or that the creator of the universe fathered a child with a human mother goes to prove Einstein’s theory of human intelligence.  If you are a True Believer or a MAGA (Morons Against Government, Association) person, I apologize and hope that I haven’t offended you.

   So you are reading it in this blog.  Perhaps there are infinite levels of existence both above and below our level and that we should stick to our own level.  That is what we are here for.

Patent Rights & You

   Perhaps you have never invented or created anything in your life and believe that patent rights have nothing to do with you.  I have found that belief can be very wrong.  Our government created and enforces patent rights.  The foundation of those rights is the belief that if someone has the creativity and perseverance to create a new product or system to benefit the lives of others that they have the sole right to financially benefit from their creation.  That seems fair.  This right is bestowed on both people and corporations.  Patent rights are designed to benefit all and reward the creator of the idea, while improving our quality of life.

   How could you argue with that business concept?  Easy.  The laws that guide patent enforcement are easily corrupted and at a great cost to society.  I think that I am safe to say that whenever corruption can be used to create great wealth for the greedy, it will be.  Would a pharmaceutical company take an action that will ultimately take Medicare away from you, your children and take the long term income away from them?  Oh, yes they would.  Corporate decisions are more and more influenced by quarterly profit reports, rather than long term benefits to the corporation or the society it serves. 

   My favorite example of this abuse to society is being done to you and me by a group of pharmaceutical companies, but the abuse is available to all companies.  Watch for it in your cost of living.  My cost of living is primarily paid by Medicare to AbbVie Corporation (CEO, Richard Gonzales).  You see, I have CLL (Chronic Lymphocyte Leukemia).   The disease would have killed me in 2019 without the AbbVie supplied drug, Imbruvica (ibrutinib).

   A quick history of the pharmaceutical scam would be: Celera Pharmaceuticals developed and patented ibrutinib.  During the FDA approval process, Pharmacyclics, a pharmaceutical company probably better able to manufacture and distribute the product, purchased the patent rights for three million dollars.  This figure is probably in line with the value of a lifesaving drug and the research and development required bringing it to fruition.  The next market transaction was a purchase of the patent rights by Johnson & Johnson (the baby powder folks) for nine hundred and seventy-five million dollars.  I have a hard time seeing the purpose of this transaction, other than giant profits through bilking the public for a lifesaving drug.  I would suspect that the next transaction exceeded J&J’s greatest expectations when they sold the rights to the drug to AbbVie for a whapping twenty-one billion dollars.  As you know, a million is a thousand thousands and a billion is a thousand millions.  So we are talking about a large purchase.  To give a better feel for the size of the purchase, a Japanese Corporation is currently negotiating the purchase of US Steel Corp. for $17.4 billion dollars.  So the Patent Rights enforced by our government must be of great value.  The basic purpose of any government enforced business law is to be a shield for its citizens, not a sword for the greedy.  This law is obviously being perverted.

   AbbVie is having the drug Imbruvica produced in China so there are no manufacturing jobs being created.  Medicare pays AbbVie $195.125.74 per year for my Imbruvica.  My portion of that charge in co-pay is about $3,000 per month, but I don’t have that money available, so I turned the drug down.  “If living were a thing that money can buy, then the rich would live and the poor would die …”      Then comes a phone call from a foundation offering to pay my co-pay.  I asked who funded this foundation and was told “the pharmaceutical manufacturers”.  This funding comes back to AbbVie when the drug is purchased by Medicare along with my co-pay.  This is a monstrous scam on Medicare and will end the program.

  An effective government patent protection law would protect the inventor/creator of the product, as intended.  A single purchase with protections also might be allowed if the marketing of the right allowed the purchase at a maximum of 20% over book value of the protection.  No patent rights to a third purchaser.  This is what your government would look like if it represented you.

20K Today

    

   This little blog reached twenty thousand reads today, March 24^th 2024.  It is read around the world.  Sixty-eight hundred reads in the US.   Sixty-four hundred reads in Singapore.   Eleven hundred reads in Russia.  Eleven hundred reads in Hong Kong.  A thousand reads in France.  The remaining nations have read it less than a thousand times each at this point in time.  I will attempt to increase these numbers in the future, but am proud of the blog right now.

  I do ask myself from time to time, “What is pushing the readership up?”  I try to write it as a Patriot of The Planet, trying not to view the world as a view from one nation state.  This seems to me to be a clearer picture of my environment.  I see myself as a member of no group, with the exception of humanity.  I try very hard to be unbiased.  I accept no sponsorship.  There is hopefully no dollar influence.

   There is a formula in most of my blog posts.  1. Try to find some program that is not functioning well, but is generally accepted.  2. Try to define the problem.  3. Look at alternative and perhaps novel solutions.  Pick a solution that gives the most benefits to the greatest number of people.  If personal greed is the primary driving force behind the action, I normally point this out and attack the status quo for the benefit of the many.

   If I were to try to describe my point of view I would use words like independent, agnostic, mostly liberal, reasonable, logical and in search of truth.  I try to use unbiased data.  The blog is written in America which means I can freely state my point of view with freedom from government interference.  For that I am thankful.

"Border Crisis"

   What is presently called a border crisis is actually a crisis in problem solving.  It is not an immigration problem.  It is actually a problem of economics south of that border.  Thousands of people are not walking a thousand miles with their families to live in The United States.  They are enduring this hardship in hope of improving the living conditions of their families.  They are in search of food and shelter (economic opportunities).  Survival!

   Today’s "border crisis" is an effect, not a cause.  If one attempts to cure an effect, rather than the cause, at best you have a short term solution.  We all know that, but pay little attention.  The people of Mexico, Central or South America would rather stay where they are than walk to The United States.  Their first language is the language of their homeland.  The weather is fine, unless challenged by flooding and Global Warming.  Move to the US and your language becomes the language of an economic underclass.  You or I would walk too if it were a matter of survival for you and your family.

   China built a wall to keep the world out centuries ago.  We have a political party led by a madman seeing this as today’s answer to a problem.  The other party is going along with them with a border security scheme.  The better answer is: cure the cause.  Build a strong economic engine in all of the land south of our border.  All of the resources are there.  All but for adequate capital and a real desire to improve living conditions for all.  The Maquiladora Program failed because it stood for US investment in cheap Mexican labor and profits taken back to the US.  A successful program would benefit the Mexican Nation and its people, driven by a reasonable return on investment.

  Here is my simple solution to the “crisis.”  Convince the two most famous idiot savants in the world (Elon Musk & Jeff Bezos) to combine their net worth of $294 billion (37^th annual Forbes list for 2023) and give birth to The Great American (both continents) Economy.  I refer to them as idiot savants because as wealth producers they are both genius, but for having any empathy for humanity, idiots.

   These two bozos could make the world a better place rather than participating in the childish competition to reach close to space (a competition that the US and the USSR entered into and completed over a half century ago).   When two financial monsters such as Musk & Bezos enter into such a contest, no one benefits. If instead they financed The Great American Economy, south of the border, they would forever have a place in history as great men.  They would be curing the cause of a problem not trying to lessen an effect.  If they continue on their present trajectory they will have the momentary fame of two wealthy dingbats.  If you are reading this Jeff and Elon … REPENT!  (and help good people stay home).

   The economic engine described could be powered solely by Solar Energy, Musk’s field.  The distribution of goods & services produced would be the Bezos expertise.  Solar powered American Continents would reverse climate change (with the aid of solar desalinization watered forests).  Simple.

ROAD

   I was driving home, about to cross a bridge, on concrete pavement.  It was raining.  To the right, just off the roadway, mounted on a temporary barricade, was a sign that read, “WET ROAD.”   How are you to react, when driving in the rain, when a sign by the road says that the road is wet?  My first reaction was a slight chuckle.  I had already reacted to the rain by driving a bit slower and allowing a greater gap between my car and the car in front of me.  I was aware that driving in the rain slightly reduces visibility and tire adhesion to the pavement.  Is there anyone driving a car that is not aware of that?  If such a clueless human exists, how would that road hazard sign effect their driving habits?  I would suspect very little.

   The government of Pima County, Arizona not only bought the signs, but they sent out road crews (in the rain) to set them up.  This expense comes out of my county property taxes as does education, public health and public safety.  We build and maintain the roads with those funds.  Someone or some folks decided to spend money to inform the public that the road is wet … when it is raining.
